3 affordable QBs the NY Giants can sign with Drew Lock banged up

Lock is probably done for the rest of the preseason.

It wouldn't be NY Giants football without some early injury adversity arriving for head man Brian Daboll. In the Week 1 preseason game against the Detroit Lions, the G-Men posted a 14-3 victory, but quarterback Drew Lock went down in the first quarter.

It has since been reported by ESPN's Jordan Raanan that Lock has suffered a hip pointer and a strained oblique. Because of how banged up Lock is, he's expected to miss a couple of weeks, so it looks like his preseason campaign has come to a close. Because of that, Joe Schoen is going to have to bring in another QB. Who should he target? We take a look at three options in this piece:

Quarterback Matt Barkley

To get us going, Matt Barkley certainly makes a ton of sense for the G-Men and Daboll. Barkley is quite familiar with Coach Dabes, having previously been signed for New York's practice squad and also knowing him from his playing days in Buffalo. Barkley, who was signed to the NY active roster ahead of a game at Dallas, is a veteran and he'll be someone who can come in and run the offense late against the Texans and Jets. Barkley has been in the league since 2013 and he's sitting at home waiting for the phone to ring. The Giants might be the ones doing the calling.

Quarterback Jacob Eason

Jacob Eason was supposed to be a stud in the league. He was a former 5-star prospect who signed with Georgia. He then transferred to hometown Washington. A former fourth-round pick of the Colts, he signed with the Giants in 2023 and even made his way to the active roster for the season finale against the Eagles. He's another player who knows the system and would enjoy getting some snaps in this summer.

Quarterback Ben DiNucci

The James Madison University legend. Ben DiNucci is best known for being a seventh-round pick for the Cowboys in 2020 and appearing in three games, with one start, that campaign. That was the last time DeNucci played meaningful football. Since then, he has played in the XFL and most recently he was with the Denver Broncos. However, he was released in May. In July, DiNucci had a workout with the Steelers.

Ryan Tannehill doesn't make sense for the Giants right now

There's been plenty of talk on social media for the Giants to bring in Ryan Tannehill. He'd surely be a great addition to the QBs room, but it's not the right fit. Tannehill isn't looking to play meaningless preseason football in garbage time, which is kind of what NY is looking for right now. Instead, Tannehill is looking for a solid No. 2 job. He's waiting for the right opportunity to arrive and he's definitely going to want more money than what the Giants are willing to put on the table.
