Positive: UDFAs getting spotlight early on

Training camp is a time for underdogs to show what they are capable of in order to try and secure a roster spot come cut day. The Giants have multiple UDFAs on their roster, and a couple have already stood out amongst the rest. Both Dyontae Johnson and Elijah Chatman were receiving first-team snaps with the defense, which is a very promising sign already.

These two aren't expected to start, but if the coaching staff likes them enough to give them starting snaps in training camp, it means they could provide valuable depth. Johnson was with the team last season, but didn't see the field much thanks to Micah McFadden making some real improvements.

Johnson receiving first-team snaps will only serve McFadden to step it up even more, as there are certainly some areas for improvement for the third-year 'backer. As for Chatman, the Giants' interior defensive line was looking like a weakness outside of Dexter Lawrence, so if he can step up, it would be a huge addition to the defense.

Both of these guys will be a fun story to watch as training camp continues. Hopefully they perform well in the preseason. This will allow them to not only secure a roster spot, but they could move up the depth chart and play a real role with the Giants as well.
