3 NY Giants fan favorites who may not make the Week 1 roster
The worst part about the preseason coming to a close is that the NY Giants now have to quickly shift their focus to getting the roster down to 53 men. Brian Daboll has already been on his grind in releasing players, with more on the way ahead of the Aug. 27 deadline.
There are surely some tough decisions on both sides of the ball, which will lead to multiple guys who made big-time plays for the G-Men in the past to be delivered with the news that their services will not be needed when Sept. 8 arrives to take on the Minnesota Vikings. Could the list include these three fan favorites?
WR Isaiah Hodgins
When the Giants first added Isaiah Hodgins in 2022, plenty of people surely had to rush to google to check his name. He was a late-round pick for the Bills and could never see consistent action. Once released, the Giants added him and he turned out to be rock solid that campaign.
In the epic Wild Card Round upset over the Vikings, Hodgins became a local hero, as he torched the Vikings secondary for eight receptions, 105 yards and a touchdown. Hodgins played a huge role in the stunning win, something fans still appreciate. However, he didn't live up to the hype in 2023 and it's now looking like he may not have a seat at the table for the 53-man roster.
RB Dante Miller
With a name like Dante 'Turbo' Miller, of course you're going to have the love and respect from Giants Nation. Miller turned heads this preseason, breaking free for some impressive runs. He saw plenty of game action, but due to the guys ahead of him, we just don't see him cracking the roster. The Giants are expected to keep three RBs, with those jobs going to Devin Singletary, Eric Gray and Tyrone Tracy Jr. Miller should make his way to the practice squad, however.
QB Tommy DeVito
Due to the uncertainty at the position, there's no way Tommy DeVito doesn't make the Week 1 roster, right? Fans seem to be split on this, but from our chair, there's just no way DeVito should be sent to the practice squad and risk another team in need of a backup to sign him off of it. Daboll and Joe Schoen must know there's a possibility that could happen.
DeVito proved last season that he's more than just a fun story, as at one point he powered this team to a three-game winning streak. He knows the system and can be trusted if for whatever reason he needs to go in for Daniel Jones. Drew Lock was signed to a $5 million contract, but his preseason was brutal - he looked rough vs. Detroit and suffered an injury that has kept him off the field since. We want DeVito to stick around. If he's not on the 53-man roster, plenty of Big Blue supporters will be livid with Coach Dabes.
