2. QB Tommy DeVito
While Tommy DeVito was the Giants' most successful quarterback last season, with Daniel Jones and backup Tyrod Taylor injured, the hope is we don't see him in action this fall. The Giants decided to keep the New Jersey native on their initial 53-man roster behind Jones and backup Drew Lock. With Jones coming off an ACL tear and playing this week and Lock recovering from an injury suffered this preseason, DeVito could have an opportunity. Still, it seems like a last resort for Daboll and offensive coordinator Mike Kafka.
The Giants would like to see Jones stay healthy so it doesn't get to the point where they have to start Tommy Cutlets this season. While DeVito wasn't bad for the Giants last year, he's on the 53-man roster for depth at the position and as an insurance option. The goal is for Jones to take most of the snaps under center; however, if he can't stay healthy or is not performing well, we will see Lock, but DeVito is used almost like an emergency quarterback. The Giants don't want to go down that road again like last season.
If the Giants need a third quarterback this year, like last season, they could look to the free agent market before naming DeVito the team's starting quarterback. They could pursue veteran quarterback Ryan Tannehill, who is a free agent, or look towards trading for someone like Jameis Winston should the Browns make him available in a crowded QB room before prioritizing DeVito to help them get wins again.
