Giants WR Miles Boykin

This name might jump out to some, especially for those who might have only read the stat sheet and didn’t catch the game. Those are probably wondering what Miles Boykin did that stood out since he didn’t catch a pass as a wide receiver.

Boykin’s contributions for the Giants aren’t so much as what he can as a receiver, but more so what he can do on special teams. As a gunner, Boykin caused havoc and nearly caused a fumble on a tackle made.

When you’re looked at as a camp body at a position that seems to have a lot of depth, the best way to make a name for yourself in the preseason and during training camp is to have strong value in another spot, especially if you can play special teams.

Boykin, who probably wouldn’t be viewed as a player to make the team as a wide receiver alone, may have locked his spot up on the 53-man roster for being a special teams gunner on the punt team. Boykin was already viewed as a good one from his experience in the league and his value was shown on vs. Detroit by making strong plays to give the Giants good field position and nearly causing a turnover as well.
