3 NY Giants winners (and 3 losers) from the first part of the season
Unfortunately, before the 2024 season started for the New York Giants, most people probably predicted a 1-3 start and that's exactly where this team is at. However, excluding the first week, they've had a chance to win before the clock hit triple zeroes.
With better execution, the Giants could easily be 3-1 and atop the NFC East. But, we don't live in that reality. The start to the season has been full of ups and downs, excitement and despair and that's how it's been for the players. Some are excelling, while others can't seem to get into a groove.
Winner: CB Andru Phillips
The rookie cornerback made an impact immediately in his first action for the Giants. Andru Phillips forced a fumble on the first defensive drive of the season and set the Giants up in enemy territory. Since that moment, Phillips has been awesome. In three games, he has 17 total tackles, including a 12-tackle outburst against the Washington Commanders in Week 2. He even has three tackles for loss, including one sack.
Phillips missed the Thursday night game against the Cowboys because of injury and his presence was truly missed. Hopefully, he can recover in time for the Week 5 matchup against Seattle because whenever he's on the field, Phillips is truly all over it.
He is arguably the biggest playmaker on the Giants defense so far this season. The nickel spot was up for grabs once Darnay Holmes left the building in the offseason and the third-round pick doesn't look like he's going to give it up any time soon.
