Loser: EDGE Brian Burns

When the Giants traded for and then extended Brian Burns, it was a euphoric moment for the franchise and the fans. The team was finally building an identity post Saquon Barkley and that identity was going to be defense. On paper, pairing Burns with Thibodeaux was going to be a nightmare for the backfields of opponents.

Two similar players in terms of skill set and versatility. Unfortunately, two similar players when it comes to their starts of the 2024 season. Burns has similar numbers to Thibodeaux through the first quarter of the season. Fine for an average/below average-type of player, but that isn't why the Giants traded for Burns. They also didn't give Burns $141 million to only have one sack through four weeks.

This is a guy who has had at least eight sacks in the past four seasons. That's who the Giants need Burns to be and right now he isn't close to that. Like Thibodeaux, he seems to be coming on as of late and hopefully he can keep up that momentum.
