4 biggest New York Giants overreactions from the win over Detroit
1. Tommy DeVito being a lock for the Q2 spot
Tommy DeVito was certainly a bright spot last season in an otherwise lost year for the Giants. From leading the Giants to a three-game winning streak and getting the popular nickname "Tommy Cutlets," it was certainly fun to watch. While he looked impressive once he took over for Lock against the Lions, he should not be an automatic lock for the backup spot come Week 1.
DeVito's numbers were solid in the preseason opener when he took over for Lock. He passed for 92 yards on eight completions and led the Giants to both of their touchdown drives, but it's just one game. DeVito needs to prove week in and week out that he can be a reliable quarterback when called upon, as despite that winning streak he put together a year ago, there were also moments where he struggled. Also, what about Lock?
The Giants signed Lock this offseason on a one-year contract to be a reliable backup quarterback to Jones. Despite being out with an injury, he seems like the close bet to win that job. There's a reason why the Giants paid him $5 million, as the former Denver Bronco and Seattle Seahawk has had starting quarterback experience in the past. While Giants fans sure love seeing DeVito on the field, Lock still should prove to be the better option.
