4 greatest one-hit wonders in NY Giants history
1. WR David Tyree
There really shouldn't be a debate for who gets the No. 1 spot on this list. The other guys can be boiled down to a single season. David Tyree is boiled down to a single play. A play that fueled the Giants to complete the biggest upset in NFL history, as they took down the then unbeaten Patriots in Super Bowl XLII. We all know the story.
With time winding down in the fourth quarter, Eli Manning threw up a prayer to the middle of the field, and Tyree pinned it against his helmet for the catch. The Giants would later score on a throw to Plaxico Burress and the rest is history. What most people don't know is just how improbable this play to this specific person was. In 2007, Tyree played in just 12 games during the regular season.
He had only four catches on five total targets. None of Tyree's catches were for touchdowns and only two were for first downs. You add in the fact Tyree was apparently dropping everything in the practice leading up to the Super Bowl and none of it makes sense. That's the beauty of football and sports. The best moments can come from the most unlikely source.
