One of the most challenging parts of being an NFL GM is making cuts throughout training camp to finalize the 53-man roster. Each team must have 53 players rostered at the start of the regular season, but about 90 to 100 players attend training camp.

Everybody at camp competes for a spot on the team, but only 53 players can achieve that in Week 1. Each team can carry extra players on their practice squad in case of injuries throughout the season, but even that is not a guarantee of making the team and takes time.

The NY Giants will soon have to make some difficult decisions, with Joe Schoen and Brian Daboll scratching their heads ahead of Week 1 as they finalize the roster. The G-Men will continue to build the best roster possible to succeed in 2024.

The team hopes to compensate for a disappointing 2023 campaign, especially in a milestone season this year. However, winning requires sacrifices and doing what's best for the organization. That said, let's look at four Giants fan favorites who could be in danger of being cut before the season:

4. LB Isaiah Simmons

While it's unlikely that Isaiah Simmons will be cut or traded before the start of next season, the former first-round pick may not be in the Giants' plans. Simmons is a dynamic player who can play both linebacker and safety, but the question is how the Giants' new defensive coordinator, Shane Bowen, will use him this season.

With a crowded pass-rushing room that features Kayvon Thibodeaux, Dexter Lawrence II, and recent addition Brian Burns, there may be little room for Simmons up front. The Giants' starting linebackers are Bobby Okereke, Micah McFadden, and the 2024 sixth-round pick Darius Muasau, who should see an increase in production, which doesn't help Simmons either.

While Simmons may play a few snaps as a linebacker, it may also be challenging for him to contribute to the Giants' secondary. Even with Xavier McKinney no longer a member of the Giants, the G-Men have a crowded safety room. The G-Men have previously used Simmons as a nickel back; however, with the addition of veteran Tre Herndon and 2024 third-round pick Dru Phillips, there may be little room for Simmons, which makes him a potential trade candidate.

Simmons, who was acquired by the Giants before last season from the Cardinals, proved to be a valuable addition to Wink Martindale's defense. He demonstrated his worth with 33 solo tackles, a forced fumble, three passes defended, and a crucial pick-six at Washington. While he could continue to be a valuable piece for Big Blue this season, his long-term future with the Giants remains uncertain despite a talented defense.
