1. OLB Azeez Ojulari
When the Giants traded for Brian Burns, the odd man out in New York became former second-round pick out of Georgia Azeez Ojulari. Injuries have held the former SEC star back during his NFL tenure, and he hasn’t been able to put it all together with Big Blue.
Regardless, defensive line/edge talent has become a premium position group for teams throughout the NFL. There are plenty of squads in the league looking to shore up their unit who may believe Ojulari would make a fascinating reclamation project. Keep in mind he posted eight sacks during his rookie season. However, New York might not be where he truly breaks out.
Perhaps Don “Wink” Martindale was holding Ojulari back. Even if that’s the case, the former Georgia star likely doesn’t have enough time remaining in New York to prove his doubters wrong. There’s only so many snaps to go around, especially with Burns and Kayvon Thibodeaux on the squad.
The Giants are set on the defensive front, with or without Ojulari. He’s expendable, and the assets, whether it’s simply cap space or some draft picks if the team decides to trade him, could go a long way towards Schoen cultivating his vision for Big Blue moving forward.
