4 players the NY Giants will regret leaving off the 53-man roster
With the NY Giants trimming their roster down to 53 players, there will inevitably be a collection of athletes they regret letting go at some point in the season. Building an NFL roster is easier said than done, and the Giants have proven that over the last decade or so.
It’s been far from smooth sailing for the team that encapsulates the New York/New Jersey area, but Joe Schoen is hoping he cracked the code this offseason, compiling a group of players that can elevate the franchise.
As the preseason comes to a close, Labor Day approaches and Week 1 is on the Giants’ mind. With a clash against the Minnesota Vikings on the docket, the Giants will take their best 53 with them into 2024 — but here are four players Schoen and company may regret not having on the initial roster:
4. WR Allen Robinson
Allen Robinson may not be the player he once was in his football career, but he looked like he was going to be a solid veteran addition to the Giants wide receiving corps. However, the team decided to part ways with the former Penn State star, opting to move in a different direction.
Last season with the Steelers, Robinson accumulated 34 receptions for 280 yards. He didn’t catch a touchdown, but the Pittsburgh passing game as a whole was anemic throughout the season. It certainly didn’t do him any favors being on the AFC North squad in 2023.
After a solid summer, it looked like Robinson was going to be a large target for Daniel Jones to take advantage of throughout the 2024 campaign, but he’ll be forced to look elsewhere. While Robinson isn’t exactly the star player he was in the past, he could’ve been a serviceable wide receiver for the Giants, and they might miss him when the season begins in September.
