5 former NY Giants players who are still free agents

There are still several former Giants available in free agency. Will Joe Schoen pursue any of them?

1. LB / S Isaiah Simmons

A player the Giants should re-sign is Isaiah Simmons, who joined the team last season after being traded during training camp from the Arizona Cardinals in exchange for a 2024 seventh-round pick. Simmons is a multi-dimensional player who can play both linebacker and safety and was a valuable piece to Wink Martindale's defense last season.

However, he only played about 33 percent of the Giants' defensive snaps and only got opportunities when starting inside linebacker Micah McFadden came off the field. In 2023 with the G-Men, Simmons had 50 tackles, one sack, one forced fumble, three passes defended, an interception, and a touchdown.

The 25-year-old stud is still available and would be a great addition to whatever team he joins next year, but Giants fans would welcome a reunion with the former first-round pick if the team pursues him in free agency this offseason. We'll say it is a bit concerning the front office has not re-signed Simmons yet if they were planning on bringing him back, which unfortunately may hint that he's not in the '24 plans.

If Simmons does sign elsewhere, I see him as a good fit for the Cleveland Browns. Pairing him with Jeremiah Owusu-Koramoah could solve many of Cleveland's problems at the linebacker position. Still, Giants Nation has expressed wanting him to play in East Rutherford come Week 1 of the 2024 season. Who knows if that will happen or not.
