5 free agents the NY Giants were wise to stay away from

2. WR Gabe Davis

The Giants have been starving for a true No. 1 wide receiver since Odell Beckham, Jr. was traded to Cleveland. Once Mike Evans signed an extension with the Buccaneers, there were really no No. 1 receivers out there.

It's a good thing the Giants didn't make a desperation move and bring in Gabe Davis. He is the definition of inconsistent. He can either have 10 catches for 180 yards and three touchdowns, or not even get a target. There's really no in the middle with him. Ask any of his fantasy team owners, they'll tell you the same thing. The Giants need more skill guys on the outside, that's no secret. Right now their receivers room is an army of slot receivers.

But, Davis wasn't the answer to this problem. As good as he can be, he's never 'that guy' enough. His polarizing play would not have been a good fit for a WRs room that's trying to find its own consistency. Being quiet on the receiver front for this free agency period further suggests the Giants will pick one early in April.
