The NY Giants are flying through training camp and preseason action is almost here. It’s a pivotal season for a myriad of interested parties, including quarterback Daniel Jones, head coach Brian Daboll and general manager Joe Schoen. While they’re entrenched in their positions at the moment, their future will likely be determined by the way the team performs this year.
While Jones, Daboll and Schoen aren’t fighting for their jobs at training camp, the reality is there’s a large contingent of Giants looking to secure their spot over the next couple of weeks. Some are already working from behind, though, like these five Giants who have already hurt their stock in recent weeks:
5. OL Aaron Stinnie
The Giants signed Aaron Stinnie after the offensive lineman spent time with the Tennessee Titans and Tampa Bay Buccaneers. The former undrafted offensive lineman turned Super Bowl champion looked like he was going to slot in along the starting offensive line after Evan Neal’s injury caused a shakeup.
However, the Giants opted to sign Greg Van Roten, and he comes to New York with a wealth of experience, including some time with new offensive line coach Carmen Bricillo. That doesn’t bode well for Stinnie, and it’s easy to read the tea leaves regarding the offensive lineman’s spot on the depth chart.
With Van Roten entering the fold, it’d be a surprise if Stinnie beat him out for the job. Never say never, but the former Titans and Buccaneers offensive lineman may be relegated to a backup role in 2024. That’s disappointing for him, especially after he was seemingly headed to the starting lineup earlier in July.
