1. QB Tommy DeVito
One of the more popular players last season, who was the catalyst for a three-game winning streak late in the season, was Tommy DeVito and he had a bit of a “Linsanity” run with the Giants in 2023, but his run seemed to end on Christmas night when he was benched in Philadelphia for Tyrod Taylor and never took back the starting job.
Now with Daniel Jones healthy and the additions of Drew Lock and Nathan Rourke to the quarterbacks room, DeVito is again not guaranteed to make the 2024 Giants roster. However, the one thing on his side that he does have is experience from playing last year as a rookie. Granted, he didn’t light the league on fire, but he did have minimal experience and even won a nationally televised Monday Night Football game against a playoff team in the Green Bay Packers.
If DeVito doesn’t figure to be in the long-term plans for the Giants, as he is only under contract for the 2024 season, another team might see something in DeVito and could use him on a team, especially if someone else has an unfortunate injury to a quarterback in training camp.
What might end up benefiting the Giants would be a team wanting to use DeVito more and getting a possible trade offer during the summer for a draft pick for “Tommy Cutlets.” While DeVito would love to stay close to home, he also has a professional career to think of and if the Giants don’t see him as a long-term fixture, then another team in the league might.
