Adam Schefter casually hints a dream Giants QB target could be free at No. 6

Yes, we won't know what the NY Giants and general manager Joe Schoen will do in the first round until April 25, but goodness, the rumors keep on flying. A lot of people want to see a stud wideout selected at No. 6 overall, but could Schoen rethink things if a quarterback falls to him?

That's what ESPN's Adam Schefter thinks could go down in the first round. While speaking on ESPN, Schefty said there's a chance that North Carolina quarterback Drake Maye could end up being available when the Giants are on the clock at No. 6. If that happens, Schoen has to bring him to town, right?

Will Drake Maye fall to the NY Giants in the 2024 NFL Draft?

"Again, I think if the right quarterback is there at No. 6, and I think that could be Drake Maye, then I think the Giants could potentially have some interest. I also think that they have other needs. Their general manager Joe Schoen has been very public about the fact that they feel like they have a lot of needs they need to address and it's hard to imagine they would bypass one of the top wide receivers in this draft in favor of a quarterback unless the right guy happened to slide right to them."

There's a lot to digest from that Schefter clip, but is he hinting that perhaps the Giants and other teams aren't quite as high on Maye that has been led to believe? Should the Giants pass on Maye to bring in either Malik Nabers, Rome Odunze or Marvin Harrison Jr., it would be surprising.

However, with Daniel Jones on track to be cleared by training camp, it could lead Schoen to bringing him a WR1 and waiting until later on in the draft to bring in a new signal-caller. Michael Penix Jr. falling to the second round would be a dream, but we're not holding our breath there.

Maye has long been viewed as one of the best QB prospects for his class, but the recent buzz is that Jayden Daniels and J.J. McCarthy have moved ahead of him. After Schefter's most recent comments, don't be surprised if Maye slips a bit in the draft order. At the same time, maybe we shouldn't be shocked if the Giants pass on him too.
