4 biggest Giants threats for Saquon Barkley if he hits free agency
By George Baker
2. Chicago Bears
Much like the 2023 Texans, the Bears hope to go from one of the league's worst in 2023 to contenders in 2024. With the No. 1 overall draft selection being a significant point of contention, along with Justin Fields' future, the Bears are looking to make changes quickly to improve their roster in 2024.
At last season's trade deadline, the acquisition of Montez Sweat from the Washington Commanders completely shifted the attitude and morale of the Bears. Quickly moving the defense from an average unit to among the league's best, the Bears recognize that a formidable offense can turn them into a threat in the NFC.
While many believe that the Bears will ship Fields off and select USC quarterback Caleb Williams with the No. 1 overall pick, they would love to pair Barkley with any of the QBs at their disposal. In 2023, the Bears felt the effect of letting David Montgomery leave in the offseason for nothing. General manager Ryan Poles and head coach Matt Eberflus will be fighting for their jobs next season, and there is no better way to help a young, developing quarterback than surrounding him with weapons.
Barkley heading to Chicago makes a ton of sense. With the cap space to use and entering the draft and free agency in an aggressive state of mind, the Bears can offer Barkley a contract he simply can't refuse.
