Plenty of people weren't too happy earlier this offseason when it was announced NY Giants defensive coordinator Wink Martindale wouldn't return to the team. To put it lightly, he and head man Brian Daboll didn't see eye to eye. This opened the door for him to resign and Shane Bowen to be hired.

The beef between Coach Dabes and Martindale was disappointing, with plenty of players hating to see it. This includes star linebacker Bobby Okereke. No. 58 developed quite a bond with Martdinale during their short time together in East Rutherford. When asked about Martindale's departure, Okereke didn't hold back with his answer:

Giants LB Bobby Okereke is also excited to work with Shane Bowen

"I'm a little pissed. I love Wink, but Shane Bowen is a great coach. I got to meet him, talk to him, so I'm very excited for our future. "

You can't blame Okereke for having this kind of reaction. While suiting up for Martindale, he was able to produce a stellar first campaign with Big Blue. In 2023, Okereke, who signed a $40 million deal last offseason, finished with 148 total tackles and 2.5 sacks. He was consistently flying all over the field.

While he's disappointed that Martindale is out of town and now the new DC for the Michigan Wolverines, Okereke is also fired up to work with Bowen. Bowen was previously the DC for the Titans and he arrives in New Jersey with a ton of pressure to help improve the defense.

The Giants have a ton of exciting, young pieces on that side of the ball, of course including Okereke, Kayvon Thibodeaux and Dexter Lawrence. Okereke has provided the fanbase with an inside linebacker worth cheering for, something that hasn't been the case for quite some time. Regardless of who his DC is, Okereke is sure to have a strong Year 2 with the Giants. Bowen will surely bring out the best in him too.
