The NY Giants lost a special player this offseason in Saquon Barkley. He was the heart and soul of Big Blue's offense the second he stepped foot in East Rutherford six years ago, but he will now don Eagle green for NY's division rivals.

While he was an impactful player on the field, the team will also miss his contributions off the field as well. He was a vocal leader in the locker room who garnered a great deal of respect from his teammates. Thankfully, it looks like someone has quickly taken that role from him. Linebacker Bobby Okereke hopped on the "Up and Adams" podcast and claimed that he has become an outspoken presence for the G-Men to fill the void Saquon left.

It is no secret that Okereke garnered the respect of coach Brian Daboll and his staff quickly into his NY tenure. The former Indianapolis Colt was voted one of the team captains prior to his first game with the Giants after he exhibited tremendous leadership skills in practices. Heading into Year 2, he has even higher expectations for himself — and fans couldn't be any more excited to hear that.

Considering he is the Mike on the defensive front, Okereke must be an impactful communicator. His skills can be utilized to call out plays or give pep talks before games. He is a well-spoken and selfless player who always puts the needs of his team above his.

He signed a four-year, $40 million contract to play with the Giants and has not disappointed. Last year, the Stanford graduate totaled 149 tackles, 11 tackles for loss, 2.5 sacks, and two interceptions. Okereke is widely regarded as one of the most underrated players in the league.

Okereke might be one of the best NFL players at his position, but he knows someone has to unite the group when the going gets tough. A charismatic and motivational leader could go a long way for the Giants' on-the-field performance this season.
