Xavier McKinney has made headlines for the wrong reasons this week. McKinney took shots aimed at the coaching staff following the team’s Week 9 loss to the Raiders when he said that he felt the leaders and captains of the locker room weren’t being heard. Whether it is true or not, those are strong words that show there is a level of disconnect within the locker room at the moment.
Defensive coordinator Wink Martindale was visibly blindsided and hurt by the comments once he caught wind of what McKinney said when speaking with the media this week. But now, with the team preparing for a game against their divisional rival this weekend, it is time to put differences aside and focus on winning.
As a captain of the defensive unit, McKinney will step up this week and lead by example instead of with his words.
