Of all the takeaways from Friday's NY Giants loss to the Detroit Lions, the play of Jason Pinnock is something that Big Blue supporters will be excited about throughout next week. Pinnock is in a battle to win a starting job and he did himself a huge favor against Detroit.

Pinnock was sensational early on, posting an interception on the first play of the game. On top of that, he added a tackle for loss and a 4th-down pass breakup on the following series. Yeah, that's more than enough to make Brian Daboll and Wink Martindale smile.

Coach Dabes was asked about Pinnock's play after the final whistle at Ford Field. As you might have been able to guess, Daboll was left impressed with what No. 27 was able to get done.

Jason Pinnock may have played himself into a starting role with his big game vs. Detroit

"He's had a good camp. We were going to play him in roughly 10 to 12 plays, but he had some productive plays early on. So, we got him out, gave some other guys some opportunity. But, pretty productive day for a short amount of time.""

Daboll, who added that Pinnock has been athletic and explosive, didn't want to overhype his defensive back, but come on, there's no doubt in our minds that the second-year head coach enjoyed seeing him ball out like that. It was a frustrating night as a whole for Big Blue, with plenty of mental mistakes being recorded.

However, Pinnock was able to keep his strong summer going in a head-turning manner. Pinnock has most definitely been a surprise for the G-Men, but in a great way. Only time will tell if he or Dane Belton wins the starting job next to Xavier McKinney, but Pinnock is looking like the favorite leading up to next week's preseason tilt with the Panthers at MetLife Stadium.
