We've seen a number of changes and things go down throughout the beginning of NY Giants' training camp. From coaching decisions to personnel on both sides of the ball, to now, some strong movesfrom head coach Brian Daboll.

Despite being an offensive playcaller for the majority of his career, Daboll opted to give that job to offensive coordinator Mike Kafka when they both joined the Giants in 2022. However, this hasn't really worked out as Daboll expected.

In two seasons under Kafka, the Giants offense ranked in the bottom seven for nearly every passing stat, and while their run offense has fluctuated, it was as average as can be last season. Without Saquon Barkley, things will likely be taking an even bigger hit.

Brian Daboll running the show for the NY Giants offense is a good thing

During this time, fans have been very critical of Kafka, calling his playcalling predictable, too passive, and simply not good enough. This, combined with an offseason that saw defensive coordinator Wink Martindale leave, made it seem like Kafka could potentially be out of the door as well. This is no offense to Kafka, he is an incredibly smart football mind, just very inexperienced as a playcaller.

This had led to Daboll completely taking over the offense. He's the one calling the plays for the Giants at training camp, which was the case during the spring offseason program. Not only that, but according to ESPN's Jordan Raanan, Daboll is the one leading the offensive team meetings as well.

"Brian Daboll is not just calling offensive plays this summer. He's also running the offensive meetings. This is different than his first two years as head coach for the New York Giants, when offensive coordinator Mike Kafka was the playcaller and ran that room. Kafka was promoted to assistant head coach this past offseason and has taken on a modified role."

This is a signal of great change for the Giants' offense. It has been far too passive over the last two seasons and if Daboll is known for one thing, it's for having an aggressive style of playcalling. Given the team's playmakers on offense, this will likely be an ideal situation for everyone involved, including Daniel Jones.
