Carl Banks calls out the Giants haters who keep bashing Daniel Jones
By George Baker
As all sports fans know, the New York media market is as ferocious and compelling as any other market in the world. With all eyes on them, the NY Giants face incredible pressure to perform or become a scapegoat from a passionate fanbase. Unfortunately for Daniel Jones, it seems like he is becoming more like the ladder every day, and he continues to have his fair share of critics.
Now, it’s one thing to be critical of Jones. Constantly battling injuries and even performing poorly when healthy - Jones hasn’t exactly given Giants fans a reason to put all of their chips in on him. With all that said, it’s essential to understand that criticizing Jones is one thing, but some people clearly have it out for him.
Recently, former Giant Carl Banks took to Twitter to share a clip from his podcast, Bleav In Giants, where he spoke about these “goofy” fans who seem to spend all day trashing and mocking Jones on social media. Check this out:
NY Giants fans keep on going after QB Daniel Jones
In that clip, Banks mentions that he thinks the ultra-Jones haters sharing their thoughts in the media are having a reverse effect than they’d likely want to. Instead of forcing Jones out of the building, he has built up a reputation of never having weapons, constantly having a new coaching staff, no offensive line, injuries - the list goes on and on.
This is a classic sporting contradiction. Yes, Jones has yet to be placed in a situation to succeed and continues to get the short end of the stick. However, Jones hasn’t helped himself with good play and has put a mediocre career together thus far.
So, where do we go from here? Like Banks said, the focus this season for the G-Men should be to win football games, regardless of who’s at the throne. Ultimately, when teams play winning football, everyone eats and is rewarded for their contributions. While the jury is still out on Jones, let’s hope he can use the haters to motivate him to come out strong in the 2024 season. If he doesn't play well, we could see Drew Lock before you know it.
