Seemingly out of nowhere, buzz has started to grow that the NY Giants and general manager Joe Schoen could be interested in Georgia tight end Brock Bowers in the first round of next April's NFL Draft. Bowers is an unreal talent, don't get us wrong.
However, this team simply has other areas they need to focus on other than tight end. Thankfully, the team over as CBS agrees, as they just dropped a new mock draft and they have the G-Men and Schoen going with the player a lot of Big Blue supporters have their eyes on: Jayden Daniels.
Could the NY Giants select Jayden Daniels in the 2024 NFL Draft?
"The Giants are thrilled with this development and can't pass on Daniels here, Daniel Jones contract be damned."CBS' Chris Trapasso
Chris Trapasso tossed in that last part about Daniel Jones, as the G-Men gave Danny Dimes a four-year extension worth $160 million last offseason. If only Schoen had a time machine to go back and never put that kind of contract in front of Jones - it has proven to be a disaster.
However, with the Giants having a bit of an out after the 2024 campaign, it could open the door for Schoen to release Jones and move fully forward with a new QB he might take in the upcoming draft. That's where Daniels could come in.
The LSU standout just announced he's skipping the Tigers bowl game to turn his focus to the NFL Draft. A big showing at the Combine could improve his draft stock too, but as of right now the belief is that he'll be a Top 10 pick.
If Daniels is still available when it's NY's turn to send a name in, it sure would be tough for Schoen to pass on him. If Schoen were to go with a talented offensive lineman or wide receiver instead, then sure, it'd make sense. However, Bowers can't be the pick here. Someone like Daniels, though? Heck yes.
