Deonte Banks filming Giants making his NFL Draft dream come true is heartwarming
This is surely a moment Maryland cornerback Deonte Banks is never going to forget. Wait, excuse us, that's NY Giants cornerback Deonte Banks. On Thursday night, general manager Joe Schoen traded up one spot to make sure no one else would take the star defensive back.
Banks had been linked with the Giants for a while, with fans calling for Schoen to get him to East Rutherford. Luckily, that's exactly how things went down. And, there's no doubt that Banks is fired up about his future in the NFC East.
As soon as Banks found out he was going to be donning a Big Blue jersey, he was over the moon in excitement. He whipped out his phone and actually filmed things as they went down live on TV. This is just too good:
Giants CB Deonte Banks was fired up to hear his name called at the NFL Draft
Again, Banks is never going to forget this. He wasn't in Kansas City for the draft, but his party was still rocking. You could hear the entire room erupt in celebration once Roger Goodell delivered the good news: Banks is NY-bound.
Checking in at 6-0, 200 pounds, Banks has great speed and he's a great tackler too. With CB being such a big need for the G-Men, Banks made a ton of sense at No. 24 overall for Big Blue. This is exactly the kind of DB that Wink Martindale loves working with too.
There's going to be a ton of pressure on Banks to step up opposite of Adoree' Jackson next season, but no one can argue he's got a ton of potential. There are still some things he'll need to work on in 2023, but who better to help him out than Martindale? This feels like a huge get for Brian Daboll and his staff.
