Eagles trading up to draft a dream NY Giants CB target was a sick joke
Seriously, what is it with the Eagles trying to ruin the offseason for the NY Giants? Back in March, Howie Roseman broke countless hearts in New York and New Jersey after he signed Saquon Barkley to a big-time three-year deal. That move still hurts.
Thus far already in the NFL Draft too, Roseman landed stud cornerback Quinyon Mitchell in the first round. Then on Day 2, with countless Big Blue supporters hoping Joe Schoen would draft Iowa's Cooper DeJean, Philly traded up to take the stud defensive back. You have got to be kidding.
The Eagles drafting Cooper DeJean infuriated countless Giants fans
It always felt like a long shot that DeJean would fall all the way to No. 47 overall, but there was a bit of hope that Schoen would find a way to trade up and bring in the Iowa standout. Instead, it wasn't Schoen who got aggressive, it was Roseman.
Last year, the Eagles somehow improved their stacked defensive line/pass-rush and already this draft, they're making impressive moves to improve their secondary. Luckily for Giants Nation, the sting of missing out on DeJean was reduced with NY taking safety Tyler Nubin at No. 47.
In addition to a need at cornerback, the Giants also needed to bring in a safety to replace stud Xavier McKinney, who signed a four-year, $68 million deal with the Packers in free agency. Nubin entered the draft as the highest-rated safety. You know NY made a smart move when legendary head coach Nick Saban showed their new DB a ton of love even before the pick came in.
Soon enough, we'll find out if Schoen will be able to bring in a new cornerback to work on the other side of the field from former first-round pick Deonte Banks. DeJean being that guy would have been a dream, but that didn't come to fruition thanks to Roseman. Give us a break.
