Giants could exact the ultimate revenge on Cowboys if Dak Prescott hits free agency
By Ryan Heckman
The season is here, and the New York Giants will roll into yet another campaign with Daniel Jones under center. The job is his, period. There are no ifs, ands or buts about it.All of the Drew Lock whispers are long gone. He is the backup and Jones is the starter.
But, with the Giants often predicted to be in contention for the No. 1 overall pick next year, hinting that they're likely going to finish with one of the worst records in football, what does that mean for Jones going forward? Better question: who will the Giants' starting quarterback be in 2025?
By all accounts, the Giants might not be the only NFC East team asking that question in the near future. According to ESPN's Jeremy Fowler, the Dallas Cowboys might actually see Dak Prescott hit free agency after this season.
That wouldn't actually happen ... would it? Unthinkable! Think again, because Fowler provided one heck of a bombshell report. Fowler began by reiterating the fact that Dallas wants to extend Dak. It's their intention to do so. However, the pressure is now on with Week 1 kicking off and a deal still not being done.
He went on to write something that stuck out, more than anything else, though:
" ... a line from someone with direct knowledge of the situation midweek -- "looking like free agency at this point" -- gives me pause."
Fowler also went on to note that it's going to "take some work" for this contract to get done, because Dak "isn't afraid of free agency."
If Dak Prescott hits free agency, there would be no better story than signing with the Giants
If the Cowboys fail to get a contract extension done with Prescott, how could it not be appealing for the veteran quarterback to sign with the G-Men? He's spent years terrorizing the Giants, going 12-2 against the team for his career thus far.
Now, he'd get a chance to stick it to the Cowboys by signing with the very team he'd grown accustomed to beating. This has some serious Brett Favre, Minnesota Vikings type vibes. Granted, that story played out a little differently. But, the overall concept is similar. Boy, would that be interesting.
Would Giants fans be able to come to grips with Dak in a Giants uniform? It would take some getting used to, but since Eli Manning called it quits, this is an organization that's been longing for another franchise quarterback. Prescott will be 32 years old by the start of the 2025 season, and if the Giants play their cards right by building the rest of the roster, he could be the missing piece that puts them over the top and right back into contention again.
Whether or not Dak were to sign with the Giants, the funniest part, above all else, would be seeing the Cowboys losing him. It would be the ultimate "Cowboys move" for Jerry Jones to allow something like that to happen. And in any event, when the Cowboys are desperately searching for a new quarterback next year, Giants fans will be on the floor rolling with laughter. That much you can be assured.
