The man has earned a nice new contract. One of the main takeaways from the 2022 campaign was the sensational play of standout NY Giants defensive tackle Dexter Lawrence. Excuse us, that'd be All-Pro defensive tackle Dexter Lawrence.

The 6-4, 342-pounder was a monster for defensive coordinator Wink Martindale last season. 'Sexy Dexy' finished the year with 68 total tackles and 7.5 sacks, both career-highs for him. After that kind of a year, you already know he's hoping for an extension from the G-Men.

While speaking at the NFL league meetings, general manager Joe Schoen said he actually spoke with Lawrence's reps recently. Not only that, but negotiations are ongoing between the two sides.

Dexter Lawrence could land his Giants extension in the near future

Both Lawrence and Andrew Thomas took home All-Pro honors last season, which was amazing to see. With Lawrence, he was the leader for the defensive line, starting every single game in 2022 other than the regular-season finale vs. the Eagles.

Not only is Lawrence a tremendous player, but he's also a fan-favorite. With his bubbly personality, he has won over the hearts of countless people in East Rutherford. Schoen knows Lawrence's value and he also wants to make sure he stays with Big Blue for the long haul.

Last April, the Giants picked up Lawrence's fifth-year option. With that said, Lawrence will be entering the final year of his deal with the Giants this season. No one wants to see the big fella hit free agency, as countless teams will be lining up to try and ink him. Schoen doesn't want to risk anything, which is why he'd like to get something done. It could happen soon.

• Schoen was also asked about Leonard Williams and his future with the team. Due to his massive cap hit for 2023, people are hoping that Williams will take a pay cut. Schoen noted that the Giants don't have any leverage there and that no conversations have been had yet to ask him to do that.

• Some people are concerned about Darren Waller's injury history, but Schoen isn't. He's confident in the training staff and the Giants are already starting to map out a practice schedule for the star tight end.

• Could another Waller-type trade be on the way for the Giants? Schoen said there's always going to be conversations with other teams' general managers about which guys could be available. Schoen certainly left the door open for a trade both before and during the NFL Draft.
