Giants get priced out of another veteran CB Brian Daboll desperately needed

It wasn't mean to be for the G-Men and former All-Pro CB.

Unfortunately for the NY Giants, the team has grown quite used to veteran cornerbacks landing big-time contracts elsewhere. An experienced CB remains a major need for the G-Men and Brian Daboll, but once again, they've missed out on a player who would have been a great get.

That'd be former two-time All-Pro playmaker Stephon Gilmore. Most recently, Gilmore suited up for the Cowboys and Giants fans were dreaming of him making his way to East Rutherford to play for new defensive coordinator Shane Bowen. That's not going to happen, as Gilmore is going to sign with the Minnesota Vikings.

Stephon Gilmore has agreed to terms with the Minnesota Vikings

The Vikings gave Gilmore $10 million for the upcoming campaign, something the Giants were never going to make happen. Per Adam Schefter, the five-time Pro Bowler is getting $7 million guaranteed in his new deal with the NFC North side.

This of course isn't the first time a stud CB hasn't ended up with the G-Men this offseason, as Tre'Davious White and Darious Williams both ended up signing with the Rams - NY had reported interest in both DBs.

As things stand, Deonte Banks is your CB1 for the Giants, but Nick McCloud and Cor'Dale Flott are still fighting for the CB2 spot. No disrespect to either youngster, but they've been a bit too inconsistent this summer. Flott is battling a minor injury too, which only complicates things.

At both CB and safety, there's simply too much youth and there's no leader there. Xavier McKinney left for the Packers, while Adoree' Jackson remains out in free agency. Bringing in someone like Gilmore would have been tremendous, but the money just wasn't there for him.

It's a bummer, but it's simply how things are for New York and Schoen right now. They'll likely look to bring in a veteran once camp cuts start to go down, though.
