Giants release former third-round pick who never met expectations with Big Blue
There's no arguing that the pass-rush depth for the NY Giants has been a major problem for this team over the past two years. Outside of Kayvon Thibodeaux, players are either unable to stay healthy, or they just can't get the job done.
When selected in the third round of the 2019 NFL Draft, there were high expectations for 6-4, 255-pounder Oshane Ximines. However, the youngster never lived up to the hype and it was up in the air if he'd even make the roster this summer.
Ximines only appeared in three games this year, while spending plenty of time on the practice squad. On Thursday afternoon, it was announced that Ximines had been released. Just like that - and months too late if you ask some fans - Ximines' time with the G-Men has come to a close.
NY Giants released OLB Oshane Ximines and signed WR Dylan Drummond
Ximines last appeared in a game for the G-Men against the Jets in late October. On the season, he finished with four total tackles and two quarterback pressures. In his five years with Big Blue, Ximines totaled 6.5 sacks, with 4.5 coming during his rookie campaign.
With Ximines being handed his walking papers, the Giants replaced him on the practice squad by signing receiver Dylan Drummond. Drummond appeared in one game with the Lions this year. He signed with Detroit after not hearing his name called during the 2023 NFL Draft.
In college, Drummond was a standout for Eastern Michigan - in his four years at EMU, he hauled in 183 balls for 2,028 yards and 14 touchdowns. He made quite the splash over the summer in Detroit, but he didn't post any receptions for the Lions in his lone appearance with the NFC North squad.
He's not playmaker by any means, but who knows, maybe he can make some noise with the Big Blue PS and then maybe we'll see him take the field later this season.
