Giants Rumors: Brian Daboll tension forcing Wink Martindale out of New York?
This probably was one of the last things NY Giants fans wanted to see before kickoff with the New England Patriots on Sunday. Last week, Wink Martindale's defense put on a show in the thrilling win over Washington. However, it seems like the relationship between him and Brian Daboll is a bit fractured.
Well, perhaps more than fractured. According to NFL insider Jay Glazer, the feeling inside the organization is that there's tension between the two veteran coaches. Could this lead to Martindale potentially being on his way out at the end of the season? That's what a lot of people are thinking.
Could Wink Martindale be on his way out of town after 2023?
During the blowout loss to the Cowboys, Martindale and Daboll reportedly had a heated conversation at halftime. The Dallas offense was barely breaking a sweat in the 49-17 win and Daboll was not happy about it at all.
To his credit, Martindale got his unit fired up ahead of the Washington showdown, with the NY D looking fantastic in the victory. Things were highlighted by the Isaiah Simmons touchdown to seal the victory for Big Blue.
Now, though, Martindale's future with the team feels like it's totally up in the air. Don't forget that Martindale was interviewed for head coaching jobs last offseason - it's always been his dream to lead his own team. This offseason, you have to imagine he'll land even more interviews.
This time around, though, it's unknown if he'll head into interviews as a member of the Giants staff, or as a man without a job. Martindale is a great coach and he's loved by his players. With that said, the latest reports out of East Rutherford doesn't give us a ton of confidence in saying he'll be back next season. That feels like it will be somewhat of a surprise.
