General manager Joe Schoen has been meeting with top NY Giants prospects in East Rutherford, travling to Pro Days and doing an unreal amount of scouting over the past month. Once next Thursday night arrives, Schoen will show his hand by going with either a wideout, cornerback, safety or perhaps a different position with the No. 25 overall pick.

For a while now, though, plenty of people have assumed that Schoen is going to go all in to try and land a star wide receiver for quarterback Daniel Jones or a CB to help Wink Martindale. In ESPN's Jordan Raanan latest piece, he has people thinking that maybe CB could be the right direction for the front office.

There's a good chance the Giants take a CB in the first round

While folks would love a wideout to be taken at No. 25 overall - which Danny Dimes would enjoy too - Raanan noted that the Giants' top receiver targets may not be available when Schoen is on the clock late in the first round. He's not going to reach for a WR just to attack the position.

""It’s entirely possible that by the time the Giants pick, the wide receiver of their choice is no longer available. The best available player late in the first round could be at defensive line or cornerback, also positions of serious need for the Giants. While almost all the evaluators agree that the draft as a whole isn’t especially strong, most are high on the cornerbacks. It’s believed to be a deep cornerback draft into Day 3.""

Guys like Deonte Banks, Emmanuel Forbes, Justin Turner and Joey Porter Jr. have been mentioned as possible cornerbacks for the Giants in the first round. This team still needs help at cornerback, as another stud is needed to help out Adoree' Jackson at the position.

If Schoen is focused on offense, then he may need to trade up if he wants to land someone of Jaxon Smith-Njigba's caliber. However, cornerback could be the best possible move for him come next Thursday night.
