Giants Rumors: Could NY actually trade for Josh Allen to replace Daniel Jones?

The NY Giants have a significant decision to make this offseason, which is the future of their quarterback position. Giants executives will decide whether or not to give Daniel Jones another shot at being QB1, or look for his long-term replacement this offseason.

If they decide to move on, general manager Joe Schoen could go in two different directions: use his upcoming first-round pick on someone like Caleb Williams or Drake Maye, or trade for a different signal-caller.

One replacement for DJ that Big Blue could explore is Buffalo Bills quarterback Josh Allen. The sixth-year veteran was the No. 7 overall selection by the Bills out of Wyoming in the 2018 NFL Draft. Since joining Buffalo, the 27-year-old QB has helped the Bills reach the postseason the last four years. However, as the team currently sits 5-5 through 10 games, they are in jeopardy of missing the playoffs this year, which they haven't done since Allen's rookie year in 2018. So, could a move to East Rutherford actually be a possibility?

A Giants trade for Josh Allen would reunite him with Brian Daboll

The Bills have been considered contenders to win or even reach the Super Bowl the last few seasons. Despite that, they've consistently dropped the ball and choked in the postseason. If they do not make a postseason appearance or even a run in the playoffs, could major changes, including letting Sean McDermott go, be on the way? Keep in mind they already fired offensive coordinator Ken Dorsey.

Should the Giants decide to make a run at trying to land Allen, it would of course mean a reunion would be on the way with Brian Daboll, who was the Bills OC before he was hired by the G-Men. Daboll and Allen were able to create magic together.

During Daboll's tenure in Buffalo, Allen would break passing records in 2020, and the team would reach 13 wins for the first time since 1991, leading to an AFC Championship Game appearance. When Allen was drafted out of Wyoming, he was viewed as a work in progress, but Daboll would quickly clear those talks and he was a crucial part of the QB's development. Allen's success led to Daboll winning the AP NFL Assistant Coach of the Year Award in 2020 and eventually landing his current role in New York.

The idea of the Giants acquiring Josh Allen first came to fruition on Thursday Night when WFAN's Evan Roberts (video above) floated the idea of the two teams making a blockbuster deal after the season on his radio show with Tiki Barber. Not only did Big Blue fans love the idea of acquiring Allen this offseason, but so did the former NY running back, and this got a lot of people talking about the possibility of a deal happening this winter.

Will the Giants front office pull the trigger on landing one of the league's best quarterbacks, or will they go in a different direction? The ball is in the hands of Schoen and Daboll to decide what is best for the franchise's future, but a trade for Allen would break the internet.
