Plenty of eyebrows were raised earlier this week when NY Giants head coach Brian Daboll said the team would 'look into' and 'research' a potential move for DeAndre Hopkins. Jets coach Robert Saleh said his team was not interested. Coach Dabes could have said something similar, but he didn't.
So, there may be some hope here after all? The Giants are still in need of a WR1 for this offense. If you ask standout wideout Darius Slayton, he'd be all for bringing in D-Hop to town. In an interview this week with Pat Leonard of the NY Daily News, Slayton said he'd welcome his addition to the WRs room.
The NY Giants appear to be interested in adding DeAndre Hopkins this offseason
Between Daboll and Slayton's comments, it sure seems like signing Hopkins is being discussed in the front office. However, this really could come down to how much the talented wideout is looking to make with his next deal.
If Hopkins is eyeing the kind of money that the Baltimore Ravens gave Odell Beckham Jr., then we can go ahead and forget about it. There's just no way the Giants and Joe Schoen are going to be able to afford anything close to that.
However, let's not forget that Hopkins is coming off back-to-back tough seasons, as injuries and a suspension have prevented him from showcasing his usual talents. Teams aren't going to want to overpay for him - we think that is.
There are surely other squads hoping to ink him to a new contract, with the Bills, Chiefs, Ravens, Texans and others also being mentioned along with the Giants as potential destinations. It'll be on Schoen to try and work his magic to figure something out. It may seem like a long shot, but the more people in East Rutherford talk about Hopkins, the more optimistic NY supporters will become.
