It's wild how things can change in a flash. Not long ago, NY Giants fans were furious with general manager Joe Schoen after a report from The Athletic dropped saying that he offered Josh Jacobs a monster contract in free agency.

That's right, according to reporter Dan Pompei, the G-Men offered Jacobs the most money of all the teams who were interested in trying to land his services. Wait, why would Schoen break the bank for Jacobs and not try to keep Saquon Barkley in town?

As it turns out, that was never the case. After people lost their minds on social media, Pompei backtracked and claimed the G-Men and Schoen never actually put an offer on the table. In the end, Jacobs put the pen to paper with the Packers and the Giants signed veteran Devin Singletary.

The NY Giants never offered Josh Jacobs a monster contract

Jacobs signed a four-year, $48 million deal with the Packers, which was eye-opening. However, of that $48 million, he took home a $12.5 million signing bonus and there's no guaranteed dough following the 2024 campaign. The inflated numbers don't really represent what he's making.

Once Pompei's original report dropped, it was alarming. However, it's good to know that this wasn't the case. In an episode of Hard Knocks, it was revealed that Jacobs was high on NY's board, but they were simply never going to invest a lot of money at the RB position.

Instead, Schoen made the blockbuster move to trade for Brian Burns, while also getting things done to improve the offensive line. Jon Runyan Jr. and Jermaine Eluemunor were the headliners in terms of the big additions up front. Runyan is your starting left guard for '24, while Eluemunor is taking over for Evan Neal at right tackle.

At RB, Singletary is the starter, while Eric Gray and Tyrone Tracy Jr. will be getting in some work too. Jacobs would have been a nice Saquon replacement, but Schoen had other needs he had to focus on instead. Pompei raised the blood pressure for a lot of people out there, but there ended up being nothing to see there. Jacobs to NY was never close to getting done.
