Giants Rumors: Saquon Barkley shuts down trade request speculation

Can't we just enjoy the Saquon Barkey contract news for a few hours without some more drama being brewed up? NY Giants fans were over the moon to see that Barkley had come to terms on a one-year deal with the G-Men, with No. 26 also reporting to camp in East Rutherford.

However, shortly after that news dropped, Pro Football Talk reported that Barkley and his reps requested a trade out of New York after he was placed on the franchise tag. Barkley caught wind of this on Twitter and didn't hesitate in shutting things down. Straight up, No. 26 called the report out with three emojis that made it clear he did nothing of the sort:

While there has been plenty of drama this offseason between Barkley and the G-Men, he has made it clear from the start that he wants to be a Giant for life. Barkley loves the Giants, which is why he and his agents were working tirelessly to try and get a multi-year extension done.

That didn't end up happening ahead of the deadline last week, but Schoen and Barkley came to terms on the adjusted franchise tag, which will be worth up to $11 million. In the end, Barkley will get the $10.1 million guaranteed from the tag, plus nearly $1 million on the table available for him via incentives.

This was a masterclass from Schoen, but it was enough for Barkley to put the pen to paper and also put this madness behind him. Now, Barkley is focused on having a huge season for the G-Men and getting things going strong with camp opening up on Wednesday.
