As soon as it was announced that the Philadelphia Eagles hired Vic Fangio to take over as defensive coordinator, there was plenty of relief among NY Giants fans. There was serious worry that Wink Martindale, who had just resigned from his position with Big Blue, could make the move to Philly.

No one wanted to see Wink with an NFC East rival. Unfortunately, some concern is now back for Giants Nation. Why? It's because with Dan Quinn becoming the new head coach of the Washington Commanders, the Cowboys are now in need of a new DC too. Martindale has been mentioned as a candidate for the job:

Thus far this offseason, Martindale is 0-for-2 with his DC interviews and there have been no reports of him interviewing for a head coach opening as well. Martindale first met with the Jaguars, but they decided to hire Ryan Nielsen.

Then, Martindale was eyeing the open spot with the Green Bay Packers after the NFC North side decided to part ways with veteran defensive coordinator Joe Barry. However, Martindale was passed up on for that job too, with Matt LaFleur hiring Boston College's Jeff Hafley.

With other openings filling up fast, there aren't a ton of options left available for Martindale. There's been no announced date for an interview with Dallas HC Mike McCarthy, but if Jerry Jones and Co. are serious about giving Martindale a look, you'd figure that would happen on the sooner side.

Martindale spent the past two seasons with the Giants and he instantly became a fan favorite. However, his beef with Brian Daboll reached a point of no return, which was made evident with Martindale cursing him out when he resigned. It's up in the air where he'll be for the 2024 campaign, but taking over the Dallas defense just wouldn't sit well with a lot of people in New Jersey.
