Rewind a year ago, and the future looked bright in East Rutherford, New Jersey for the New York Giants.

In 2022, New York made an improbable run to an NFC Wild Card spot, going 9-7-1. First-year head coach Brian Daboll was the AP NFL Coach of the Year and the Giants upset the Minnesota Vikings for their first playoff win since Eli Manning’s second Super Bowl title in 2011.

The Giants crashed down to earth in 2023, and it happened on opening night with a 40-0 primetime loss to Dallas. New York’s season was over in mid-October after a 1-5 start and no amount of Tommy DeVito magic could turn it around. DeVito, replacing quarterback Daniel Jones, led the Giants on a three-game winning streak, but New York still dropped three of its final four games to finish 6-11.

Will New York return to its 2022 form? Oddsmakers aren’t counting on it. According to FanDuel Sportsbook, the Giants are  +15000 ($100 bet wins $15,000). That gives New York an implied probability of just 0.66% to win the Lombardi Trophy for the fifth time in franchise history.

New York is projected to be in a season-long dogfight with Washington to stay out of last place in the NFC East. The Commanders and Giants are tied for the third-worst odds to win the Super Bowl. Only the New England Patriots (+17000) and Carolina Panthers (+25000) have longer odds to go all the way. Of the five teams with the worst odds to win the Super Bowl, New York is the only team with a returning head coach as Daboll hopes to turn it around in his third season.

The Giants schedule in 2024 includes matchups with fellow third-place division finishers in the Minnesota Vikings, Indianapolis Colts and Seattle Seahawks.

The Giants have quarterback question marks with Daniel Jones, who signed a four-year, $160 million extension in March. Jones suffered a torn ACL after playing in just six games last season, going just 1-5 and throwing just 2 touchdowns against 6 interceptions. Jones is now 22-36 in his five seasons while throwing for just 208.5 yards per game.

Jones is expected to be back for Week 1, but the Giants could draft his future replacement in the 2024 NFL Draft. New York holds the No. 6 pick, so it would likely need some luck or a trade to get its desired signal-caller in the first round. Jones is a huge longshot to win the MVP next season at +15000, the same odds as projected first-round picks Caleb Williams and Drake Maye.

The Giants still have decisions to make with star running back Saquon Barkley, who is a candidate for the franchise tag this offseason.
