Despite the big-time offseason moves mostly being in the rear-view mirror, there are still some talented players looking for a new home. The list of course includes Justin Simmons, a former All-Pro safety. The veteran remains unsigned, but that should change soon.

NFL insider Ian Rapoport just provided an update on Simmons and it sure seems like he will be putting the pen to paper before we know it, but with who? The NY Giants have been urged to make a move for Simmons, but nothing has been reported on that front yet. It's clear that if Joe Schoen does have interest, he'll also have serious competiton to try and make a deal happen:

The NY Giants should make a move to try and sign Justin Simmons

"He is healthy. (There) has been considerable interest, but this is one of those things where it's really just the situation and the money have to be right. We've seen plenty of high-profile, highly-productive signings right before training camp or even as you get into training camp, as teams take a look at what they have on the roster and they say, 'you know what, this superstar that I didn't think I need, now I need him.' So, the time is coming for Justin Simmons, and certainly teams have been sniffing around for quite some time."

Secondary depth has been a concern for the Giants this offseason. At cornerback, Cor'Dale Flott is expected to be the CB2 on the other side of the field from star playmaker Deonte Banks. At safety, though, Tyler Nubin was the Round 2 pick and people are excited about his potential.

Still, a massive hole was left with Xavier McKinney leaving for Green Bay. Jason Pinnock, Dane Belton and others will have a chance to step up and try to turn heads, but a leader for the safeties room needs to take charge. Perhaps that's where Simmons could step in.

He's a stud DB and he also has the kind of experience that no one really has for the young group. Simmons won't be cheap, but if Schoen can figure things out financially, it'd be a huge move for NY leading up to Week 1.
