In the blink of an eye, the NY Giants preseason opener against the Detroit Lions is going to arrive and this is a game fans can't wait for. The big question leading up to the opening kickoff is will Danny Dimes be taking the field?
As things stand, it's totally up in the air if Daniel Jones is going to be playing or not. However, it seems like he's pushing to put the pads on and lead the offense out onto the field. He made that much clear while speaking to the media following a Giants-Lions joint practice:
Brian Daboll is yet to confirm if Daniel Jones will play preseason Week 1 or not
Jones hasn't seen game action since he went down with his torn ACL against the Las Vegas Raiders. We don't have to tell you that Jones went through a nightmare 2023, but thus far at training camp, the veteran QB is looking like he's getting back into a groove. It sure helps out that he has someone like Malik Nabers balling out for him too:
Giants center John Michael Schmitz not expected to play vs. Detroit
Elsewhere on the injury front, don't expect to see second-year center John Michael Schmitz take the field at MetLife Stadium for this one. Schmitz has been out for a little while due to a shoulder injury. He's still working his way back and the team certainly isn't going to rush him back too soon. His timeframe to get back to practice is a bit up in the air, but the hope is he'll be ready to rock for Week 1.
What's the latest with former first-round pick Evan Neal?
Speaking of unknown statuses, what in the world is going on with Evan Neal? The former No. 7 overall pick hasn't been on the field at camp and Daboll said he's working his way back with his rehab from ankle surgery. It's been a slow recovery for Neal. He won't be playing on Thursday night vs. the Lions and at this point, not many people are feeling optimistic he'll be good to go to take on the Vikings on Sept. 8.
