Is Daniel Jones playing today?

No need to risk Danny Dimes in this one.

For the first time since January, the NY Giants are ready to take the field. That's right, the preseason is here, with Brian Daboll and Co. all set to host the Detroit Lions - this comes after joint practices in East Rutherford, where things were beyond chippy.

Leading up to kickoff, countless fans have been waiting to find out whether or not Daniel Jones will be playing or not. He wants to get going, but throughout the week, Daboll has been mum on making a final call. Well, the decision has been made. According to ESPN's Jordan Raanan, Danny Dimes won't be suiting up:

Daniel Jones and Malik Nabers won't play vs. the Lions

While this news isn't totally shocking, it's a bit of a disappointment for fans who were waiting to see Jones take the field for the first time since he tore his ACL last campaign. However, this feels like the right move.

The weather report for East Rutherford is calling for temperatures in the low 70s, but also with rain showers expected. Because of that, keeping Jones out of action is wise from Daboll. No need to risk your $160 million quarterback playing in rain, especially with him coming off a serious knee injury.

As for Nabers, a lot of Big Blue supporters were getting ready to see him make his debut, but he's getting the night off. The last time we saw Nabers with pads on, he was going head-to-head with Kerby Joseph in the most wild brawl of the summer. Probably best to keep him away from Joseph for this preseason dance.

With Raanan reporting that most of the starters will be watching from the sidelines, it will give an opportunity to some fringe players to impress the staff. At the same time, Drew Lock should also be starting, so we'll see what the QB2 can do leading this offense. We're just going to have to wait until Week 2 of the preseason to see Jones, Nabers and many others do their thing.
