It only took 2 games for a Brian Daboll Giants coaching hire to look terrible

The new DC hasn't gotten the job done early on for NY.

It doesn't take long for NY Giants fans to lose patience with players and coaches. Not even three weeks into the new season, Brian Daboll is being asked about his job security following the loss on the road to the Washington Commanders. No one expected this, as the G-Men let a win slip away in their most recent contest.

Daniel Jones and the offense did more than enough to come out on top - though Daboll's awful decision to trust Graham Gano would stay healthy backfired. On the other side of the ball, though, the Giants defense may not have allowed a touchdown, but they also didn't force a single punt, with the run-defense looking atrocious. Because of that, Big Blue supporters are starting to show anger towards new defensive coordinator Shane Bowen.

Shane Bowen isn't getting the job done early on for the NY Giants

Following the loss, Daboll met with the media and focused on three areas that haunted the Giants, with two of them coming on the defensive side of the ball. Bowen was known for his run-defense 'genius,' but where was it against Washington?

In the 21-18 defeat, Brian Robinson Jr. looked like an All-Pro back, rushing for 133 yards on 13 carries. His 7.8 yards per carry is a total joke. Not only that, but Jayden Daniels rushed for 44 yards, while veteran RB Austin Ekeler posted 38 more hashes. NY gave up 215 total yards on the ground. Yeah, that's totally unacceptable and it's on Bowen to clean that up.

The week before in the loss to the Vikings, Sam Darnold tossed for 208 yards and two touchdowns, while RB Aaron Jones finished with 94 yards and a touchdown on 14 carries. Jones averaged 6.7 yards per carry. Noticing a theme here?

If the Giants are going to allow teams to run all over them, it's only going to make life more difficult for their young secondary. With the squad at 0-2 on the year, changes need to be made on defense and fast. Dexter Lawrence can't do everything on his own. Bowen needs to make some adjustments because right now he has people missing Wink Martindale instead of praising him.
