Does Jalin Hyatt have WR1 potential for the NY Giants?
By James Nolan
The New York Giants are about to kickstart the regular season, and they're hoping to see some new additions make an impact. Fans are very eager to see new veterans such as Bobby Okereke and Darren Waller, but rookie wideout Jalin Hyatt is starting to excite the fanbase.
In his last season with Tennessee he put up huge numbers, as he was fifth in the nation in receiving yards with a total of 1,267. Not only did he tack on yardage, but he was also a touchdown machine. The former Vols' standout snagged 15, which was good for second among all WRs in the 2022 NCAA season.
In training camp he did nothing but gain chemistry with Daniel Jones. In the game against the Panthers, Hyatt showcased his potential by hauling in a TD from Tyrod Taylor. Once the regular season hits, we're hoping to see these kinds of plays with Danny Dimes throwing him the ball:
Can Jalin Hyatt become a go-to option for Daniel Jones?
Jones doesn't have have a true WR1. Right now Isaiah Hodgins could be considered the go-to guy, but by no means is he a legitimate elite weapon. This gives Hyatt an opportunity to potentially become the QB's favorite target.
As the season progresses, fans are hoping to see a connection with Jones and the speedster. There is no denying that the QB could use an elite weapon in the receivers room. The offense already has an elite RB in Saquon Barkley, and they're hoping the offensive line led by Andrew Thomas can be a factor as well.
The one thing this offense is missing is a go-to weapon for Jones to throw to. Darren Waller should for sure help, but he is aging and has a injury history. Hyatt on the other hand has the tools to become a dangerous threat in this league.
In the final game of the preseason vs. the New York Jets, we got to see Hyatt line up against All-Pro CB Sauce Gardner. One particular highlight that excited the fanbase was when we saw the third-rounder burn Sauce down the sideline.
He has all the skills to become a major force for the Giants, but only time will tell. Hyatt excited the fanbase and showed the coaching staff he deserves playing time. Now he just has to prove to Jones he can be a reliable weapon, then we can see the young receiver flourish.
