Latest Jalin Hyatt update has nightmare NY Giants ending written all over it
One of the biggest concerns for the NY Giants over the first two weeks of the season has been the lack of playing time for Jalin Hyatt. Entering the new campaign, the hope and expectation was that Hyatt would not only make a big difference for Daniel Jones and Co., but that he would have a breakout sophomore campaign.
Against the Vikings and Commanders combined, Hyatt has posted zero catches, zero yards and a single target. What in the world is going on there? The second-year wideout can't be happy about his lack of production/playing time, but this is nothing new for him. According to ESPN's Jordan Raanan, Hyatt was livid over the summer when he wasn't involved in things.
Not only that, but sources told Raanan that the speedster even told the coaching staff that if they're not going to use him, then they might as well send him to a different squad. Goodness.
The NY Giants need to get Jalin Hyatt involved on offense ASAP
"There was a moment late in the summer when it appeared this might go sideways. Unhappy with the situation, Hyatt said during practice that if the Giants weren't going to use him, they should trade him. That does not appear it will happen. Hyatt is still in their plans."
- ESPN's Jordan Raanan
While Raanan made it clear that the Giants have no plans to trade Hyatt, it doesn't change the fact that he needs to be more involved in things moving forward. What was the point of trading up in the third round of last year's draft to get him if he's going to be a ghost on Sundays?
Hyatt told Raanan that he feels like his 'time will come' and that he's going to be ready when his number is called. He's saying all the right things despite the 0-2 start for the team. At the same time, while he's saying that he's not going to pout or be angry about his lack of PT, the last thing this team needs is for more drama to fill the locker room. Raanan recently said on his podcast that he feels like Brian Daboll could be close to losing said locker room, with him 'hanging on by a thread.'
That's not what anyone wants to see, but with the brutal start to the season, it should be no surprise that guys are ticked off. Again, Hyatt has said he's going to keep grinding and not be mad at his lack of usage for the aerial attack. If he keeps working his butt off in practice and continues to be an afterthought for the passing game, however, then maybe those thoughts about wanting to join a new team could return for him.
