Malik Nabers contract details: NY Giants sign No. 6 overall pick ahead of minicamp
It didn't take long for the NY Giants to get things across the line with No. 6 overall pick Malik Nabers. First, the G-Men got a rookie contract done with former Purdue running back Tyrone Tracy Jr., and then they followed things up with Nabers right before he took the field for the start of rookie minicamp.
According to NFL insider Tom Pelissero, it's a four-year contract for Nabers, with a fifth-year option there too. It's a fully guaranteed deal for the star wideout, with $29.2 million coming his way. Things include an $18 million signing bonus. Not bad for a kid who is yet to play a pro snap:
Malik Nabers has signed a $29 million contract with the NY Giants
Nabers, for now, is rocking No. 9 for the Giants, a number he's sharing with kicker Graham Gano. We have a feeling this is going to be a short move for him, so go ahead and hold off on buying his jersey just yet. With that said, regardless of the number, he's got WR1 written all over him.
Nabers was taken in the first-round of the draft for good reason - he's a certified baller. Plenty of experts and analysts had him as the No. 1 wideout for his draft class, even over Marvin Harrison Jr. who went at No. 4 to the Arizona Cardinals.
The expectations are of course going to be high for Nabers and the money he's landed in his first pro contract backs that up. However, a lot of people think he can be the next Odell Beckham Jr. for this organization, with the LSU comparisons already running wild.
Last season for the Tigers, Nabers finished with 89 receptions for 1,569 yards and 14 touchdowns catching the ball from No. 2 overall pick Jayden Daniels. Can we expect that same kind of production for the G-Men? Not at all, but the potential is there for a 1,000-yard season. Nabers was brought in to be an electric playmaker for this offense. Fans can't wait to see what he's made of come Week 1.
