You weren't alone if your heart stopped for a second or two when NY Giants wideout Malik Nabers went down with an ankle injury in practice. Nabers, the No. 6 overall pick in the 2024 NFL Draft, is far too important for the Giants to miss any action in September.

Fortunately, it doesn't look like that's going to be the case. Jordan Raanan reported that Nabers is dealing with a minor sprain. Then ahead of the most recent practice session, head man Brian Daboll said he doesn't believe a fracture is involved and his stud wideout is day to day moving forward.

NY Giants rookie Malik Nabers is day to day with his ankle injury

Anytime a youngster who is being deemed as a savior for an offense gets banged up like this, it's going to cause plenty of anxiety among the fanbase. Thankfully in this case, Nabers is dealing with a minor issue, per Coach Dabes, and his Week 1 status isn't up in the air.

With the Giants getting ready to take on the Houston Texans this weekend in Week 2 of the preseason, don't be surprised if Nabers sits this one out. We don't want to make any assumptions, but if he's missing multiple practices, Daboll and Co. may decide to just take things easy with their first-rounder.

That won't be the case with Daniel Jones, as the veteran QB is expected to start vs. Houston and see extensive action. It will be the first game action for Danny Dimes since suffering his torn ACL against the Raiders last campaign.

He didn't play in the contest vs. the Lions, with Drew Lock getting the start. Nabers failed to haul in any passes from Lock in his Big Blue debut, which was a bit of a bummer for him. However, all will be forgotten once the season-opener vs. the Vikings rolls around. Yes, there's a chance Nabers may miss the next two preseason games, but the good news is his ankle is in much better shape than a lot of us thought it would be.
