3. Emmanuel Forbes, CB Washington Commanders: Round 1, Pick 16

Heading into the draft, the Washington Commanders had a major need at the cornerback position. When the team was on the clock at pick 16, just one cornerback had been selected. Players such as Oregon's Christian Gonzalez, Maryland's Deonte Banks, and Penn State's Joey Porter Jr. were all still on the board. Instead of adding one of these defenders, the Commanders opted to add Mississippi State cornerback Emmanuel Forbes

With the players on the board, the selection of Forbes surprised many. The move was shocking because many had him marked as a late first-round or day-two prospect. While at Mississippi State, Forbes was a ballhawk in the secondary. Over three seasons and 35 games, he recorded 94 solo tackles, 150 total tackles, 6.5 tackles for loss, one sack, 20 swatted passes, 14 interceptions, and six pick-sixes.

Forbes has the upside to contribute from Week 1, and could quickly become a factor. But the Commanders could have added a better option when looking at the other players available. Gonzalez was expected to be a top-10 selection, with elite upside. Adding him to this Commanders defense could have addressed the cornerback position for the foreseeable future.
