After the New York Giants kicked off Week 4 on Thursday Night Football, they got a few extra days off to watch the rest of the action unfold. One of the bigger storylines of Week 4 was undoubtedly when the Kansas City Chiefs lost star wide receiver Rashee Rice to a knee injury in their game against the Los Angeles Chargers. With it looking like Rice will be out for an extended period of time, the Chiefs are now extremely short-handed on offense.
Could the Giants be expecting a phone call from Brett Veach sometime soon?
One particular NFL insider seems to think there's a possibility to once again ignite the trade flame between these two teams. NFL Network's Peter Schrager discussed some viable trade options for the Chiefs to replace Rice, and of the short list, he included Giants second-year wideout Jalin Hyatt.
Schrager noted that it's "at least worth calling on" someone like Hyatt, if he's trying to get inside the mind of the Chiefs' front office. Now, this wouldn't be the first time the Chiefs came calling for help. Just two years ago, the Chiefs went out and traded for former Giants first-round pick Kadarius Toney.
We all know how that one worked out, in the end. As for Hyatt and a potential deal involving the 2023 third-round pick, this is also not the first time he's been involved in trade rumors during his young career.
Jalin Hyatt trade rumors don't seem to be dying down anytime soon
After the Giants' first two games this year, rumors swirled of Hyatt apparently asking for a trade out of New York. The former Tennessee star would soon deny those rumors and claimed them to be false, noting that he loves it in New York and has respect for the organization after they traded up to get him in last year's draft.
With the Giants being 1-3 on the year, though, one can't help but wonder if the Giants will soon become sellers. It isn't just the fact that New York is losing games that could ignite more Hyatt trade rumors. It's the fact that he's played just 51 snaps on the season, perPro Football Reference. Hyatt has seen three targets in that time period and has not caught one of them.
Could he already be on his way out? What gives? He was one of Daniel Jones' favorite targets during training camp and made some highlight reel type plays during those practices. Now, he's an afterthought. I suppose we'll have to see if the Chiefs come calling ... again.
