NY Giants 53-man roster prediction following the 2023 NFL Draft
By Reese Nasser
NY Giants cornerbacks (7)
• Adoree' Jackson, Deonte Banks, Darnay Holmes, Cor'Dale Flott, Aaron Robinson, Tre Hawkins III, Leonard Johnson
Headlined by Adoree' Jackson, the Giants have put together a secondary full of young playmakers. After moving up in the draft to acquire Maryland's Deonte Banks, it is clear that the team was looking to improve this unit. Banks has the potential to become a star for this unit, and could quickly take over as the team's top corner.
In addition to Banks and Jackson, second-year cornerback Cor'Dale Flott could see his role increase significantly. After showing flashes last season, he could also become an every-down corner for this group.
Through the draft, the Giants also added Old Dominion's Tre Hawkins III in the sixth round. Given he can excel in camp, he could also secure a spot within the group. The same can be said for Duke's Leonard Johnson who the team signed after missing all of his rookie season in 2022.
The final spot could belong to Aaron Robinson. While injuries have plagued him over his first two seasons, he still has the potential to make an impact when healthy.
NY Giants safeties (5)
• Xavier McKinney, Dane Belton, Bobby McCain,Gervarrius Owens, Jason Pinnock
Headlined by Xavier McKinney, the safety position may be the area lacking the most depth along this defense. McKinney has quickly become the leader of this unit, but there is a lack of proven talent alongside him.
Heading into his second season, Dane Belton will see a significant increase of playing time following the departure of Julian Love. Recently signed Bobby McCain and Jason Pinnock will also likely play a key role in this group.
Seventh-round pick Gervarrius Owens could also earn a spot on the final roster. Given how he produced while at Houston, he could very well become one of the steals of the 2023 class.
NY Giants specialists (3)
• Graham Gano (K), Jamie Gillan (P), Casey Kreiter (LS)
In terms of the specialists, the Giants will likely send out the same group that they did last season. Graham Gano has long since established himself as one of the best kickers in the NFL, and there is no reason that should change in 2023.
While Jamie Gillan struggled at times last season, the Giants seem prepared to have him return in 2023. With a two-year deal agreed upon just months ago, he will once again take the field as the team's starting punter.
In 2023, we will also see the return of fan-favorite Casey Kreiter. The veteran long snapper is entering his fourth season in New York and shows no signs of going anywhere.
